Manufacturing Remains Strong While New Orders Cool
Manufacturing in October continued operating at a strong rate while new orders – which fuel future growth – cooled somewhat, the Institute for Supply Management said. “The manufacturing economy continues to be improving,” Timothy R. Fiore, chair of the organization’s Manufacturing Business Survey Committee, said on a conference call. However, "extended lead time and prices" are holding back expansion, he added.

Manufacturers added 60,000 jobs in October, with motor vehicles and parts leading the way. The motor vehicle category boosted employment by 27,700 jobs, according to a breakdown by industry issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Durable goods overall added 41,000 jobs.

Boeing Co. has reached an accord worth about $225 million to settle a shareholder lawsuit that alleged the company's directors "failed to properly oversee safety matters" related to the 737 Max, The Wall Street Journal reported. The newspaper cited people familiar with the matter. Boeing has also agreed to hire an ombudsman to handle internal issues, the Journal reported.

Stellantis is offering buyouts to some salaried employees, the Detroit Free Press said. The automaker cited its investments in electric vehicles as a factor. The buyout offers are to "assist in our transition," the company said in a statement. Stellantis was formed by the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The company's holdings include the Jeep, Ram, Chrysler and Dodge brands.
