Ford Motor Co. said it will stop manufacturing vehicles in India "because it does not see a path to profitability in the country," Reuters reported. The move represents another retrenchment for the U.S.-based automaker. Ford entered the Indian market a quarter-century ago but still has less than 2 percent of that nation's vehicle market.

Boeing Co. "must face a shareholder lawsuit" claiming that its board of directors didn't properly monitor safety matters related to the 737 Max, the Wall Street Journal reported. That was the result of a ruling by a Delaware judge. The 737 Max was grounded in 2019 following two fatal crashes. "Boeing, which had sought to dismiss the case before it advanced, can appeal the judge’s ruling," the Journal said.

Desktop Metal said it acquired Aidro, a company founded in 1982 and based in Italy. Desktop Metal described Aidro as "a pioneer in the volume production of next-generation hydraulic and fluid power systems through metal additive manufacturing." Aidro is active in various industries including oil & gas and aerospace.

Eaton's Vehicle Group embraced Industry 4.0 starting in 2018. Joao Faria, the group's president, writes Industry 4.0 was key in maintaining operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Eaton "saw the benefits of Industry 4.0 as an integral part of our operations strategy when COVID-19 spread around the world in 2020," he writes.

Direct 3D Printing of Aluminum 6061 Now Available
In March 2021, ExOne announced a new patent-pending process to binder jet 3D print and sinter aluminum 6061, one of the most commonly used alloys in the world.

CNC machine tool supplier Methods Machine Tools said it will host open houses at two facilities in the southwestern United States. They will be Oct. 5 and 6 at the company's Phoenix technical center and Oct. 6 and 7 at its Los Angeles technical center. Visitors will be able to talk shop and learn from some of the most innovative, experienced CNC and automation experts in the industry, the company said.

Leaders of U.S. ports expect congestion to extend well into 2022 "as the crush of goods from manufacturers and retailers looking to replenish depleted inventories pushes past shipping’s usual seasonal lulls," The Wall Street Journal said. Ports already are jammed with record numbers of containers, according to the newspaper.
